WEEK 03 :)

Hello! Good-morning (it's still morning where I am right now, and good-afternoon if you're reading this in the afternoon!)  In this week we worked a little on Flash, and we started to structure our first project!
-images

In the first half of the lesson, we were learning how to trace, symbolise, and move objects using Flash! We traced a car (this is the car I traced)
Pink+Car.jpg

We traced the outline of the car, to get the body shape that we needed for our symbol.

Once we got the full body of the car, including the windows and doors, we excluded the wheels as we included it in later. We then started to fill the car with our preferred colour (I made my car pink!) First making large rectangles to cover the main body, then using the pain brush to fill in all the places that the squares couldn't. By having the guide outline if I painted over it, the line would still show and not be painted over.

Once the car body was completed, I filled in the windows using a gradient colour of black and white (to add dimension and the effect of light hitting the windows) and made a new layer for the first wheel. After I completed the first wheel, and made it a symbol, I copied the wheel, created another layer and placed the second wheel in place.

-and thats all we got up to so far, next week we will be adding frames and making the car and tires move. The more experienced Flash users will be adding a background street moving alongside with the car!

In the second half of the lesson, our lecturer told us that we will be working on and creating our own 'postcard' to send in to the ABC OPEN website! A virtual postcard is where you have short clips and films, where you narrate over and explain what and where each clip is.

ABC OPEN showcases clips made by independent film producers over Australia! The video post cards are usually very casual, friendly chat video about their topic. Exactly like a real postcard, minus the video!

The twist our lecturer gave us was that our place that we're talking about, has to be Charles Darwin University! We have to make a short film about something to do with our connection with the university!

I already have a lot of plans on what I am doing, but that will be kept a secret until next week! I'll defiantly show you guys the video once I finish it :) Have a lovely week! See you then.

WEEK 02!

Hello again! thank you for coming back and seeing what I got for you this week!

In this lesson, on the 13.03.13,  I learnt the following things:

  • gradient
  • Flash- using the paths and tweaking, and a little bit about the frames.
  • hyperlinks
  • Content rating
  • Talent release forms
  • www.fatant.asn.au
  • copy right
  • IP
  • Patent
  • Title search
  • 'How to sell your script to Hollywood'
  • Creative commons
  • Combination of text, audio, still animations, video and interactivity.
  • communications
  • Industry potential Pitfalls- Possible Solutions
  • Linear
  • Non linear
Throughout this blog, I am going to breifly go over each of the topics which we where learning about :)  so get excited!

Gradient

This image about is an example of gradient. as the blue is fading into white.
It gives images the effect of dimensional, almost as if a light is hitting a certain part of the object.

Flash
Path: by creating a 'path' as a guide in Flash, it will not be seen on the final movie but will act as a path for the made symbol to move along in the animation.

As shown in this image above, the yellow line is acting as a guide for the green monster to move along.

Tweaking: In the image used for path there is a larger circle on the beginning and ending of the line by selecting them both, the symbol will move from one point to the another, along the path.

Frames: the more the frames, the slower the animation vice verser.

Hyperlinks
The internet uses "hyperlinks" to link things together, as in on the internet you click on one thing to get to another, and this is used by hyperlinks.
example: by clicking on blogger, and clicking on my blog in has linked you to this post! Hehe and here you are thanks to hyperlinking!

Content Rating
All media has particular content classification depending on the content it contains and what age group it is aimed towards and suitable for. This helps us distinguish what is suitable for children and what is suitable for adults. It is an agreement and a contract that gives the TV networks permission to air Tv's and movies.

Here is a list of Content rating:
G=General, everyone.
PG= 12 years plus
M= mature audiences
MA15+ = Mature audiences, over 15 years.
R= 18years+
RC= restricted classification, may not be legal in some countries

Talent Release Form
A talent release form is used for actors, it contains all information about what is needed for the shoot and asks for permission to use their image for their filming.
Here a sample Talent Release Form:

This websitide is a local industry, which is associated with the Film and Television Association of the Northern Territory.  It's combined with Screen Territory, which is a local legalities which helps with funding for local film makers and movies, as they provide some money to help develop the movies/films.

Copy Right
Copy right is used so that it is illegal for other people to use your work, without referring to the person who filed for copy right. There is no registration for copy right in Australia.
"Copy right applies to the author or originator of certain literary or artistic productions for a certain amount of time with exclusive privilege to that person, to decide who has the copies of the same publications and sale. They have the right to control  the distribution of their work. Violation of copyright is called infringement." - Peter Houtmeyers.

IP = Intellectual Property

Patent
Only applies to the country.

Title Search
A talent search is where you are able to see if the title you are hoping to use for your film, has already been used or copyrighted.

"How to Sell Your Script to Hollywood"

In class we were shown this video about how to start up a film, and "how to sell your script to hollywood"
The main points where:
  • The ideas start off the script
  • you send your ideas to a writer, who will write the script for you.
  • You send the script to a movie producer, if they like your idea they will send you a check.
  • If you register a film, it does not mean the movie is copyrighted.

Creative commons is made to be able for everyone to use your work without having the hassle of asking the creator for permission. It is a place to share your work, views and ideas to get your point across and available for everyone.

Licences: attribution, share-alike, no-diverers, non-commercial, non-commercial share-alike, non-commercial no-diverers.
Share-alike: This content may be used and tweaked, but they have to mention the original owner.

Combination of Text, Audio, Still animation, Video and Interactivity.
Here are a list of examples:
  • Youcrew= a 'facebook' like social network for classes or universities to interact, ask questions and to share opinions.
  • 3D  Television.
  • Advertisement is broadening to social network sites.
  • Engineers use 3D design before they start to build, to work more efficiently and precise.
  • In medicine, they use stimulations to example how it may effect the patients.

Communications
List of examples:

Skype:

Facebook:

Email:
Texting:

MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service):

'Seflies' (taking photo of self):
source: Me (I took this 'selfie' when I got my job at Supre)

Industry Potential Pitfalls
If a work industry isn't working effectively, it may result in problems being caused in the workplace.
  • Poor communicating with a client, the client may not know what they want or they are asking for too much , or they may keep changing their mind.
  • The project may go over-time or over budget.
  • Technical mishaps.
  • Relationships in the  production team break down.
-Peter Houtmeyers
Possible solutions:
  • Make sure the client and team understand each other. Clarify and define.
  • Place a fee for any additions or changes that are beyond the original price.
  • Plan, plan, plan.
  • Testing your equipment prior
  • Test a small selection of each stage of production to make sure it will work as you intended, use prototypes.
-Peter Houtmeyers.

Linear
These are things that can not be changed or altered.
  • Movies
  • Video tape
  • Tv
Non Linear
Things that are changeable.
  • PVR/recorded Television
  • youtube
  • a website.

So that is everything we learnt in those lessons! This has got to be my biggest blog post yet and I apologise for any boring-ness you may have experienced.
I'll be back next week, once again! See you then :)

Welcome to my first Journal - Week 01!

Hey! This is my first journal entry and there will be many to come :) :) :)

As this is my first week combined with the other classes, it was a lot like revision. Although a lot more in depth.

This week we briefly went over what we where going to cover during the course, shown some videos (like Charlie The Unicorn). And other short videos which demonstrated animation. charlieunicorn.jpg

We then had to make a picture using Flash. Which we were taught how to use layers and effects to create a night sky with skyscrapers.

We were informed of the film festival held in Darwin called the "Fist Full Of Films Festival"  Where local film makers can submit their own short films to win money, we where recommended that if we where serious about film making to enter this competition as it is a great way to meet other film makers.

We where also shown runners up and the winner of a film festival, which were very creative, and one made right in the uni was in there! It was about an email virus that haunted a uni student for not sending before 12:00am, Hilarious!

The class was also brainstorming roles and jobs used in the film production (the three events of production, Pre Production, Production, Post production) industry.

Here is a list of all the jobs that we discussed:

phew thats a lot of jobs!

So that all we learnt about that on that week01! (wasn't that a LOT!!!!) Hope you enjoyed this because like I said before, there will be a fair bit more coming along! Tata for now! See you next week!

My First Project

Last week, we where told to make a 'themed project' and use appropriate sound to go with it. With film clips and sound that was offered to us.

By using the sound alongside with the film clips, we could set the type of emotion and effect we wanted onto our viewers.

My video is a bit mystical, a bit mysterious and a bit adventure-y. I used time-lapse clips to create my project. And I also used a mystical soundtrack to add to the emotion of escape.

Here it is: :)

The basic knowledge of Film Production (and more specifically, Pre Production)

When creating a film, there are a whole lot of little parts which when combined creating a beautifully crafted film. A film structure includes: PreFilm Production, Film Production and Post Film Production.  I will be talking and explain Pre Film Production.

Film production is made up of:
  • ·      Discussion of the film. Script, budgets etc.)
  • ·      Creating the storyboard.
  • ·      Hire crew members.
  • ·      Film and record sounds, watch and edit footage.
  • ·      Edits to make the movie seamless.
  • ·      Distribution of the film
  • ·      Marketing.

In Pre Film Production, the main focuses are:

The script includes a range of things from emotions, dialogue, setting, characters and scene shifts. Once completed the agent takes the script and ideas to movie produces.

In the treatment process they take the script and idea and talk and discuss how it will play out, pitching the idea and the setting.

The storyboard includes pictures and an overview of each scene in the movie; it also includes dialogue, camera angles, sound effects, characters and lighting.

The budget is where the movie produces invest their money into the movies, hoping that the movie will make more than what they put in. An example of when this went wrong was Spiderman 3 2007 which cost $200 MILLION dollars to make, but didn’t make the money back. Therefore the producers lost money making the film. Whereas when they made the next Spiderman, The Amazing Spiderman 2012 they only spent $80 million dollars.
"The Amazing Spider-Man earned $262,030,663 in North America and $490,185,894 in other countries, for a worldwide total of $752,216,557.Worldwide, the film is the 46th-highest-grossing film, the seventh-highest-grossing 2012 film, the tenth highest-grossing superhero film, the lowest-grossing Spider-Man film and the sixth-highest-grossing film distributed bySony/Columbia." - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Amazing_Spider-Man_(2012_film)#Release

Crew is made up of the lighting, camera men etc.

And that’s only a little information about what takes place in pre-production….
